Tips
These dates are almost correct. Soil, dirt and climate play in the way your crops will grow. Most gardeners grow crops on a trial and error base. Commercial farms are completely different from backyard growers. These charts for fall and spring (cool and warm) season crops are almost the same just different times.
Zone 10 A crops are grown almost year-round here in Yuma. Just knowing when to plant the same plant is crucial to a good harvest. Since we don’t have four seasons it’s a little tricky but once you get the hang of it, you’ll do just fine.
Soil plays a big part in our garden as well. My backyard is sand soil I have to amend it for some plants and some plants just loves it. In town they have clay dirt, and they have to amend theirs as well. It’s a little tricky for me some year I do great some year I couldn’t get anything to grow.
Thank goodness for my forever garden.
Some crops like tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants take around 100 days to harvest. Plan accordingly.
Warm-weather plants like sunflowers, gourds, cucumbers, beans, cowpeas, corn, squash, watermelon, melons, and pumpkins should be seeded directly into the garden in August.
